Use *Kann ich …?* to offer help (*Kann ich Ihnen helfen?*). To ask for help, use *Können Sie mir helfen?* (formal) or *Kannst du mir helfen?* (informal). *Mir* is dative — “to me”. On the phone, *Bleiben Sie dran* means “please hold”.

Common mistakes

Watch out for these learner errors:
