A **yes/no question** puts the **finite verb in position 1**, then the subject: *Komm**st** du aus Berlin?* · *Hab**t** ihr Zeit?* · *Könn**en** Sie morgen?* This is the same verb you use in a **statement** (V2), only the order changes: *Du komm**st** aus Berlin.* → *Komm**st** du aus Berlin?* **Modal verbs** and **haben** / **sein** work the same: *Willst du Kaffee?* · *Ist das dein Rucksack?*

Use these mini-pairs as templates:
- Kommst du morgen mit? — Are you coming along tomorrow?
- Arbeitet sie im Krankenhaus? — Does she work at the hospital?
- Habt ihr schon gegessen? — Have you (all) already eaten?
- Kann ich Ihnen helfen? — Can I help you?

Common mistakes
Watch out for these learner errors:
- Don't leave the verb in second position in questions (*Du kommst mit?*) — in standard German use *Kommst du mit?*
- Yes/no questions are **not** formed with *ob* — *ob* is for indirect questions (*Ich weiß nicht, ob …*).
