Rule explained
These are **fixed phrases** you hear at stops and ticket counters. Prefer polite forms: **would like** + noun or **to** + verb, and add **please** where it sounds natural. A **single** ticket is one way; a **return** (UK) or **round-trip** (US) includes coming back.
Examples
Use these mini-pairs as templates:
- Where is the next stop? — Wo ist die nächste Haltestelle?
- A ticket to Berlin, please. — Eine Fahrkarte nach Berlin, bitte.
- We have to change in Munich. — In München müssen wir umsteigen.

Common mistakes
Watch out for these learner errors:
- After 'would like' use a noun or 'to' + base verb: I would like the menu. / I would like to pay.
- Say 'a ticket to London', not 'a ticket for London' (both appear, but 'to' + city is very common).
- In UK English 'return' = round trip; in US 'round-trip'. 'Single' = one way.
- Mind the gap / Please mind the doors — fixed safety phrases on trains/underground.
