B2 connectors give nuance: 'obwohl' (although), 'trotzdem' (nevertheless), 'dennoch' (yet), 'hingegen' (whereas). Some are subordinators (verb at end), some are adverbs (verb in 2nd position).

Examples

Use these mini-pairs as templates:

• Obwohl es regnet, gehen wir. — Although it's raining we go.
• Es regnet. Trotzdem gehen wir. — It's raining. Nevertheless we go.
• Er ist müde, dennoch arbeitet er. — He's tired, yet he works.

Common mistakes

Watch out for these learner errors:

• 'obwohl' ≠ 'trotzdem' grammatically — verb position differs.
• Adverbs in position 1 still push the verb to position 2.
