Rule explained

**Kein** negates a noun that would otherwise have **ein** or no article (indefinite sense): *Ich habe **kein** Geld*, *Ich brauche **keine** Tomaten*. It behaves like *ein/eine* in the endings: **keinen** (masc. acc.), **keine** (fem. or plural), **kein** (neut.), **keine** for plural count nouns. Contrast **nicht** (negates verbs, adjectives, whole ideas): *Ich kaufe **nicht*** vs *Ich kaufe **keinen** Zucker*. For „not the“, you often use **nicht** + definite noun or rephrase (*Ich kaufe den Käse nicht*). Pattern: *ein einen* → *kein keinen*; *eine* → *keine*; plural indefinite → *keine* (*keine Eier*).
