In everyday speech you often use the colloquial pattern — especially when you do not need to be precise. Examples: • 08:15 → Viertel nach acht • 10:30 → halb elf • 12:50 → zehn vor eins This pattern uses the 12-hour clock. To avoid confusion, you can add the time of day: morgens, vormittags, nachmittags, abends, nachts. Example: 18:30 → abends halb sieben (not *halb neunzehn* — „halb“ does not combine with 24-hour numbers this way.)
