Regular German verbs follow a clear pattern. Take the stem (infinitive minus -en) and add the personal endings.
Examples
Use these mini-pairs as templates:
- Ich lerne Deutsch. — I learn German.
- Du spielst Fußball. — You play football.
- Er wohnt in Berlin. — He lives in Berlin.
- Wir machen Hausaufgaben. — We do homework.
- Ihr trinkt Wasser. — You (pl) drink water.
Common mistakes
Watch out for these learner errors:
- 'sein' and 'haben' are irregular — learn them by heart.
- Verbs whose stem ends in -t/-d add an extra 'e': du arbeitest (not 'arbeitst').
