All German weekdays are masculine nouns and are capitalized. Often you hear them with the article „der“: der Montag. In schedules use „am“ + weekday: am Montag (on Monday).

Use these mini-pairs as templates:

• Am Dienstag lerne ich Deutsch. — On Tuesday I learn German.
• Jeden Freitag treffen wir uns. — Every Friday we meet.
• Was machst du am Sonntag? — What are you doing on Sunday?

Common mistakes

Watch out for these learner errors:

• Never lowercase weekdays in sentences — they are proper nouns.
• Use „am“ for „on“ a weekday (am Mittwoch), not „in dem“ in everyday speech.
